FOX 2's M.L. Elrick shoved by head of Detroit City Council security

FOX 2's M.L. Elrick was roughed up by the head of Detroit City Council Tuesday night while attempting to interview George Cushingberry Jr. as he arrived at the meeting.

FOX 2's M.L. Elrick attended the first City Council city-wide community meeting Tuesday night.

Our cameras were rolling when President Pro Tem George Cushingberry Jr. arrived, which seemed to have sparked a heated confrontation that started with Elrick getting shoved against a wall.

Elrick reports he was pushed into a wall at the time Cushingberry arrived at the meeting. You can see in the video the officers seem to clear a path for Cushingberry, while pushing Elrick aside, and Cushingberry walks by without even glancing over (SEE PHOTO).

The Detroit Police Department is looking into the incident.

Elrick reports police did not interfere when Council President Brenda Jones arrived, nor when Deputy Mayor of Detroit Ike McKinnon arrived. Elrick also spoke with councilmembers Andre Spivey and Scott Benson with no police interference.

Cushingberry has made headlines recently after open alcohol and marijuana were discovered in his vehicle during a traffic stop. He was let off with a ticket. A Detroit Police Department investigation into the stop says it will soon discipline the supervisor who issued the ticket for failure to signal.

Cushingberry's law license will also be suspended for 45 days beginning Feb. 18. The suspension resolves a complaint filed by a former client who says Cushingberry neglected his legal case.
