Woodhaven gas station armed robber caught on tape

An armed robbery during rush hour at a Woodhaven gas station was caught on video.

Now, police hope that recording and the public's help leads to his arrest.

A gunman in his late 20s or early 30s pointed a black semi-automatic handgun at two clerks demanding cash at the Speedway location on West Road at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The man, who could be seen on camera, waited for the clerks to turn around before making his demands. But no other customers came into the store during the incident.

"He told the clerks to give him the money," said Sgt. Francis Zdankiewicz. "He is wearing a black Chicago White Sox hat which is unique for the area. He's also got a tan Carhartt coat on. He is a baby face white male approximately 30 years of age. About 180 pounds.

"Our main concern is to locate the subject. Obviously he's a danger to the community."

He may have pulled his license plate from the getaway car.

"The vehicle we think he was in, was a late model, maybe 2000 Dodge or Plymouth Caravan," Zdankiewicz said. "The clerk at the gas station (said) there was no license plate on the vehicle."

The suspect fled northbound on Allen Road.

Police believe that the suspect is from the area. Anyone who recognizes him should call Woodhaven police at (734) 675-4906.
