88-year-old Detroit woman tied up & carjacked after car gets stuck in snow

A Detroit woman helped an 88-year-old get her car out of the snow before tying her up and stealing her car and money, police say.

Valerie Johnson, 54, was charged with carjacking an 88-year-old woman Friday afternoon. According to police, the senior citizen's car was stuck in the snow near Greenfield and I96. 

Police say Johnson offered to help. Once the car was freed, Johnson drove to a store with the other woman in the passenger seat. Later, they turned around with the elderly woman driving back to the house. When they got to the house, police say Johnson tied her up, took her money, and then stole her car. 

The woman was able to free herself and call 911. 

Detroit Police tracked Johnson down and arrested her on charges of carjacking, home invasion, unlawful imprisonment , unlawful driving away of an automobile, interfering with crime reporting, and assault and battery.
