Berkley Police: 'SOS' note left at diner was a prank

FOX 2 has learned that the boy who left an SOS note at a Berkley diner may have been pulling a prank.

Berkley Police said Monday night that they were trying to track down the boy after the note was found on the counter at Alex's Family Diner on 12 Mile Road in Berkley. Police said the SOS note read "I'm with some people, please help me."

Berkley police also released surveillance video of the act and asked anyone for information to come forward.

Immediately, police said they began trying to track down who the child was and who the boy was with when he was spotted on camera. Police Chief Bob North said there was no reason or evidence that suggested foul play but there was cause for concern.

Tuesday morning, sources told FOX 2 that the kid may have been pulling a prank. Police said they spoke with the boy's mother who gave them details that they had not released to the public.

According to police, the child told his mom that this is a game he plays with his friends and it's a prank.

Police are still working to interview the boy and have not released any names at this time.
