Family of slain mother says person of interest is bipolar, may have triggered attack

A 21-year-old woman was shot and killed in her car outside her office. The shooter, according to police, is her ex-boyfriend and father of her child.

Twenty-one-year-old Jamila Vigier Cage was found by police in the drivers seat of her car parked outside One Source Talent Agency in Troy. She was shot multiple times.

Those who knew her best say she was a kind loving mother who just started a new job as a telemarketer at the business.

Police spent Saturday night and Sunday morning looking for 24-year-old Corey Mullen.

Troy police, along with the Major Case Assistance Team, found Mullen at 3rd and Bagley in Detroit and arrested him Sunday.

But, Steve Moreno, Mullen's uncle, says the facts may have been there and no even noticed. "My nephew had a mental illness; he is bipolar. This shines some light on mental illness that it's a big player in all of this. That doesn't give him any excuse to do what he does."

Both the family of victim and the person of interest are very intertwined. The family says the victim's sister is also pregnant with the accused's brother.

To help the family in this terrible time, a GoFundMe page was created, a way for people to give back to someone who were told was always selfless in her own way.

"She was quiet, reserved. She was just happy and once when you meet her she made you feel like you've known her forever," says Moreno.

Right now, Mullen is still being called a person of interest, but, according to Troy police, charges are likely to come Monday or Tuesday against Mullen.
