The shooting happened in the 9200 block of Patton Street, which is near Joy Road and the River Rouge Park. Patrick Jones was walking with a family member to catch the bus around 4:30 a.m.
Police say four guys in a silver or gray older sedan drove by Jones. Two of the passengers are said to have gotten out of the car and opened fire. The car then sped off. Police are still looking for all four suspects.
Police say Jones was not robbed after the shooting.
"He was with my cousin, and he called and told his grandmother that my son got shot," says Jones' mother, Chrease Chisolm. "I loved him. He was a good person on his way to being a man, but he didn't get a chance. Right along with the rest of these children that die here for nothing."
Police are speaking with the victim's cousin.
Other family members are hoping someone speaks up. If you know something, you're asked to call the Detroit Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
