Police investigate first murder in Trenton in a decade

"It's very upsetting, because it doesn't happen here." said Elaine Ross.

In fact it hasn't happened in this community in a decade.

Sixty-five-year-old George Hite was found murdered inside his Westwood condo on Daniel near Fort Street in Trenton.

Ross was taken aback when she woke up Wednesday morning to find crime tape and cops knocking on her door. All they told her was there had been "an incident".

Ross tells FOX 2's Taryn Asher she hadn't heard or seen anything suspicious, and says she was even up late at night.

"I was shocked this morning when an officer came and wanted to question us," says Ross. She says she didn't know the victim.

And, apparently not many who lived here did.

We're told the victim, who lived with his mother, moved in around a year. Officers went to the home after someone called and requested a welfare check. They are unsure at this time how long Hite had been deceased before the welfare check.

Trenton Police, with the help of Michigan State Police, were on scene most of Wednesday investigating the crime, which the police chief would only say is "more complicated than the rest".

Police still have not released the cause of death, or a possible motive. Police say they hope to have the case wrapped up soon.
