The Oakland County Sheriff's Office says the shooting happened just before 10 Tuesday night on Shirley Street, which is near the intersection of Auburn Avenue and Sanford Street.
Police say the victim, 32-year-old Kenyetta Barnes, was arguing with her boyfriend in an upstairs bedroom when he pulled out a gun and fired numerous shots. Police say she was hit several times, and that her 2-year-old child was nearby and was also struck in the leg.
The suspect and the victim do not have any children in common.
The child is in the hospital in stable condition with her father, and is expected to make a full recovery.
Police say three other siblings were at home, downstairs, during the shooting. None of them were injured.
The boyfriend was found near his vehicle in the neighborhood and has been arrested. Police will not release his identity until he has been formally charged.
