Autopsy: dead newborn found in desk drawer was born alive, suffocated

FOX 2 has exclusively learned that a baby found dead inside a desk drawer at a Redford Township business earlier this month was suffocated.

Sources told FOX 2's Taryn Asher that the autopsy report states the baby was alive and the cause of death was asphyxiation.

Redford police were called to Ceva Logistics on the morning of March 31 where they made the gruesome discovery.

Coworkers said they didn't know the woman was pregnant and said they heard moaning coming from the bathroom. When someone checked the bathroom, they found blood all over the stall but they could not figure out why. They rushed back to the office to see if everyone working was okay and only one person did not respond: a 26-year-old mother from Wyandotte.

Police arrived and said they found blood on her clothes and then searched the cubicle and made the horrific discovery. The newborn baby boy was dead inside a bag hidden in a desk drawer.

Exactly how the was suffocated and the mom's role in his death are still unknown.

FOX 2's Taryn Asher stopped by the woman's house Thursday but nobody answered the door. She has not been arrested.

According to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, based on the results of the autopsy it's only a matter of time before she's arrested and charges are filed.
