Testing grounds for self-driving cars at U of M

Watch out Silicon Valley... A new test facility in Michigan for driverless-car technology opens today.  It's called Mcity, and is a 32-acre testing ground for self-driving cars at University of Michigan.

Automakers and suppliers can use the Mcity to study and develop everything from driverless cars to telematics systems.  Complete with 5 miles of roads with intersections, traffic signs, sidewalks, benches, even construction barriers.

The grounds will be used to test not only self-driving cars but also tech. incl. sensors that monitor drivers' attention, how a pedestrian's smartphone can alert him/her to a possible collision, etc.
