History making same-sex marriage couple sets wedding date

Their lawsuit changed the definition of marriage in Michigan, clearing the way for same-sex couples to tie the knot.

Now April DeBoer and Jayne Rowse are getting ready for their own walk down the aisle.

Finally a family in the eyes of the law - that was the goal all along and now after their win for same sex marriage at the U.S. Supreme Court, April DeBoer and Jayne Rowse have set a wedding date of August 22.

"We're really excited, I mean this is what we've been working for," DeBoer said. "The end result will be the adoption of all the kids. Jayne and I are looking forward to finally having a valid relationship in the eyes of the law."

Between the Lines is working with the family that so many have stepped forward to help pull it all together. The venue is being donated, hotel accommodations, the rings, the flowers, the invitations, the dessert.

They are so grateful for all the support.

"It's amazing, it's amazing," DeBoer said. "It's going to be such an emotional day."

And a very yummy one - just ask the kids.

FOX 2: "What's going to be the best part?"

"Cake and cookies," they said going to be the best party ever."

Once it's all said and done, the couple will work on the joint adoption of their five children.

"We have some things in the works," DeBoer said. "That couldn't make it possible to adopt all of them on the same day. That would be the final note in our story.

"The marriage doesn't change our relationship. But it changes the protection of our family and the protection of us. And it validates our love - which is a bonus."
