Would-be burglar bungles his way into Detroit liquor store storage: VIDEO

Detroit Police released video of a man they say failed mightily at trying to break into and burglarize or rob a liquor store in east Detroit.

Police say it happened last Thursday at a store in the 12500 block of Mack. They released the video of the break-in on Tuesday.

The Bellagio liquor store had never had a break-in. On April 30th this was, well, maybe a breakout. You see, Romeo Shamon locks his storage room so when the criminal broke in, the doors were locked, and then the only thing he could do was get out.

The video shows a man climbing through a hole in the wall of the building. Police say he knocked a hole in an outer wall to get inside the business. As he climbed through, he wriggled his body and eventually worked his way through, using a large piece of what appears to be cardboard to brace himself.

Police say the area he gained access to is a storage area and he could not get into the store itself. The video shows him try to open a door that heads into store, however, it's locked. He wanders through the storage area for a few more seconds and then disappears off camera. He then returns to the hole and climbs out, feet first, and then was gone before police arrived.

Not only did he not get anything, he left something behind. According to Shamon, he left his watch behind.

We are told that two men broke in and there may have been a third driver. They used a sledgehammer to bust through the wall and the only casualty here was a couple broken wine bottles.

He's described as a black man, 17 - 20 years old, 5'5", 110 lbs., short black hair, wearing a black and white hooded sweatshirt, black pants with green lettering, and black shoes.

As for Shamon, he's got some advice: "Get a job!"
