The village has not had a homicide in almost 10 years until the death of the young boy last week.
"And when I looked at him, I am going oh my God, did he hurt himself, did he fall," said a neighbor. "He was lifeless."
The 911 call came from the Village Place Apartments off Carleton Rockwood Road. A 2-year-old boy was injured.
"I normally hear him running around and stuff like that," the neighbor said. "But like I said, I didn't even know he was here until they took him out of here in the ambulance."
This neighbor who did not want to be identified, watched as the ambulance sped the toddler off to Detroit Children's Hospital of Michigan. Witnesses say his mother was right by his side.
Police say the boy was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The Wayne County Medical Examiner ruled his death a homicide, the cause multiple blunt force trauma.
"That is so sad," the neighbor said. "State police and the South Rockwood police were here as well.
Sources tell FOX 2 the boy was inside the apartment with with his mother and her boyfriend.
FOX 2 stopped by Monday evening but no one came to the door.
Police say there are no suspects yet but they are talking with everyone involved.
