Former Inkster officer Melendez bound over for trial, additional charge added

William Melendez, the former Inkster officer charged in a police beating video, has been bound over for trial and another charge has been filed against him.

The added charge of assault with strangulation was announced Thursday as he was bound over for his acts in the beating of Floyd Dent. He was already charged with misconduct in office and assault with intent to do great bodily harm.

Dent was pulled over in January for running a stop sign. Dash cam video shows Dent being hit in the face repeatedly by police. 

The officer seen in the video was identified as William Melendez. He has been charged with assault to do great bodily harm.

Melendez will next be in court for his arraignment on the information, 9 a.m. June 10.
