Birmingham officials vote for trial run of narrowing congested roadway

In Birmingham, a controversial plan to squeeze a congested roadway has been given the green light.

The roadway in question is Maple Road between Cranbrook and Southfield, where neighbors say the four-lane stretch is always full of traffic.

Experts studied the area and say narrowing the roadway to three lanes will create a constant traffic speed, and ease congestion.

Birmingham officials voted in favor of the plan Monday evening.

A re-stripe of the road will happen later this summer, and will stay that way for about a six-month trial run.
