Police say an altercation led to the shooting which happened around 7:10 last night in the 6000 block of Fairwood Drive, near Inkster and Hass.
Police Chief Lee Gavin says police have been called out to help resolved disputes in the past. Some neighbors say the dispute has lasted about 20 years.
Evidence markers could be seen littered through the backyard. Neighbors say they heard about seven shots and are shocked the dispute came to this.
"We didn't know it was going to get to that point," one neighbor said. "If we would have known we would have helped more. Frankly, both of them are old. They're mature, they're old."
The nature of the dispute has not been disclosed by police.
