Birth mom of 14-year-old who shot woman, defends son

Police arrest the 14 year-old boy accused of shooting his mother after an argument Friday morning.

But a different woman says  she's the boy's "real" mother. She's defending her son and she wants to set the record straight.

Tawjauna Grady Trammell says the 14-year-old boy accused of shooting his mother Thursday night is her son

She says her two sons  have been living with her brother and his wife for the past 10 years and during that time, she alleges her sons were abused.

"My kids have been beaten on before," she said. "Like my oldest son, he still has scars on him right now from being beaten on and all the different situations they go through, that I don't know."

"He just made a bad decision and I just want to be able to talk to you," said Orlando Grady,  the 14-year old's legal guardian and uncle.

Grady confirmed over the phone Friday night that Tawjauna is in fact the boys' birth mother. He hung up before FOX 2 could ask him about the abuse allegations.

He never responded to a text message asking if he knows if the boys had been abused.

Tawjauna believes the shooting stemmed from the abuse.

"I don't want to see my son go down like that," she said. "Because all he was doing was trying to protect himself."

Tawjauna also claims that both of her sons ran away from home while living with their uncle.

.Detroit police could not confirm the allegations of abuse saying they could not reach investigators.

The victim is still recovering at Sinai Grace Hospital.

Juvenile Court will handle the case and will decide if the teen faces charges.
