42-year-old Troy man accused of sexually abusing teen he met online

It's a warning that seems to pop up monthly for parents: beware of what your child or teen is doing online. On Saturday, a Troy man was arrested and charged with several sex crimes after authorities say he met a teenage girl and met up in person to have sex with her.

Brett Lloyd was arrested in Canton and arraigned on Saturday on six counts of criminal sexual conduct involving a Canton girl who police say is between 13 and 15 years old.

Craig Wiltshire with Canton Public Safety said the two met on a social media site and were messaging each other for about six months. Eventually, Wiltshire said the two met in person and he had sex with the teen late last year.

"Parents have be aware that kids are out there doing these types of things. They want to make sure they pay attention to what their kids are doing on the Internet." Wiltshire said. "In the beginning it wasn't as easy. We got information that was able to be able to lead us down and track down who it was and it took us a while to figure it out."

Wiltshire said Lloyd was using a fake picture and a fake name to mislead the teen.

Lloyd has been charged with five felonies, each carrying a 15-year prison sentence. Police say they hope this arrest reminds other parents to confront their kids and be aware of who they're talking to online...

Lloyd has pleaded not guilty and is out on bond with an electronic monitor. He's due back in court on May 1.
