The boy and his family are from Lake Orion, and were visiting friends in the 43 thousand block of Winterfield Drive, which is near 19 Mile and Ryan roads.
Sterling Heights Police Chief Michael Reese says the parents went upstairs and didn't realize the child had made his way outdoors.
"It appears he might have been curious about an automatic vacuum that was going on in the pool at the time; it appears he might have just fell in," Reese says.
The child had been in the pool for about ten minutes before he was discovered. He was taken to Troy Beaumont Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
