A doctor is attacked in his Grosse Pointe Woods home

The doctor was stabbed several times with needles, now police are trying to figure out who's behind the assault.

"This is a little odd," said neighbor Sarah McDonagh.

Neighbors of 43-year-old Dr. James Millican, Jr., can't seem to understand what he says happened on their Grosse Pointe street.

"It's a little disturbing, especially not knowing," said McDonagh.

Police say Millican was sleeping in his home on Fairholme early Friday morning and woke up to four men standing over him, stabbing him with syringes.

"It doesn't make sense, he's very friendly, neighborly, introduced himself to us when we first moved down," said McDonagh.

The emergency room physician drove himself to St. John Macomb Hospital in Warren where he works. There were still at least four syringes sticking out of his body. He went through surgery and is expected to recover.

"It's a little odd," said McDonagh. "He's a normal neighbor, he keeps to his own, he just re-did his whole landscaping, that was his big project and he's a nice guy."

Neighbors say Millican is a divorced father who is seen playing with his kids on weekends, but they also say they see younger women coming and going late at night, early in the morning and there's one woman in particular they've seen very regularly and as recently as Thursday night.

"There's a woman occasionally at the house, a blonde in her mid-30s, driving a black vehicle possibly an SUV, that is banging on the door, sometimes he answers the door, sometimes he does not," according to McDonagh.

Grosse Pointe Woods Police have been looking for evidence and any signs of forced entry at Millican's home. They wouldn't comment on what, if anything, may have been in those syringes, or what may have led up to the stabbing, but many questions remain. Some neighbors say they don't feel very safe.

"It's scary to think about something like that, usually things are kind a quiet," said Shirley.
