Brother of man murdered and set on fire, wants justice

Denolis Simon was shot to death and set on fire by two women on Detroit's east side last month.

Since then, police arrested both women in Norfolk Virgina for the crime, while Simon's brother is speaking to FOX 2.

"My heart just dropped, my heart just dropped," said Donald Simon. "We ran over there then we saw the the news and everybody, and we knew it was true."

Simon remembers the night of December 22, when neighbors told him his brother's apartment on East Grand Boulevard in Detroit was on fire.

He ran over there to find out for himself and learned his older brother, Denolis, 55,  had been murdered.

"It was real hard," Donald said. "My brother was a loving, caring person. He just lived day by day. Wasn't into drugs, a nice guy."

It didn't take long for arson and homicide investigators to piece the case together.

That night witnesses saw two young women running from his burning apartment building.

FOX 2 is told the women allegedly robbed Denolius of his money, shot him in the head twice, set him and the bedroom of his apartment on fire, and fled in his car.

"He was dating one of them," Donald said. "She was his girlfriend, they had been dating for couple months."

Donald says police were looking for another man - who eventually turned himself in and led them to Charlene Logan, 27, and Jennifer Ford, 27, who were hiding in Norfolk.

Police found the women who were arrested and remain in custody.

Murder warrants have been issued for the women and they are awaiting extradition.

They are expected to be formally charged in Wayne County when they return to Michigan, something the women are fighting right now.
