Community unites to mourn Chelsea Bruck at vigil

A devastated family is seeking support after six long months of searching for their missing loved one.

As police search for the killer of Chelsea Bruck, on Tuesday night those who knew the 22-year-old, gathered to grieve.

It's a grueling transition going from searching for a loved one, to looking for killer. But judging by the turnout at tonight's vigil, the family at least has the knowledge that they are not in this alone.

Family members hold each other up after being torn down by the news.

"She was my best friend and I'm going to miss her," said her sister, Kassandra Bruck.

Bruck's body was found April 24 during construction of a home in an Ash Township field.

"If that truck had not gotten stuck and those people would have not gotten out and walked around that truck," said Leandra Bruck, Chelsea's mother. "Every single one of us would have left this earth never knowing what happened to Chelsea."

Called a senseless murder by the Monroe County Sheriff who says Bruck was likely murdered in the same spot where she was found.

"It's pretty amazing that we did get some sort of an answer," said Megan Bruck, Chelsea's sister. "We don't have to feel as lost now."

But by who? The sheriff has been quiet about suspects and any persons of interests since the discovery was made.

"We are all given a choice," Leandra Bruck said. "You can choose light or you can choose dark."

For six months the Bruck family handed out more than one million flyers with Chelsea's picture on it and organized search parties in the fields of Frenchtown Township where she went missing.

"Whether it was just posting a flier or purple ribbon, come out to the search parties," Megan Bruck said. "We couldn't have done it on our own."

But on this night after holding their collective breath for six months, the Bruck family exhaled just a little.

"She was so full of love and she loved everyone," Kassandra Bruck said.

Enough to say thank you to a community who did what they could to find a lost soul.

We are still awaiting autopsy results to determine a cause of death for Chelsea and one thing this community has certainly not lost sight of, is the fact that a killer is still on the loose.
