Deadly shooting at Clinton Twp. party store

Police in Clinton Township are looking for the person who shot and killed a party store owner.

It happened around 11:30 p.m. Thursday night at Bernie's Market on Garfield Road, just north of 17 Mile.

The suspect entered the store and started waving a gun. The store owner also pulled a gun and they exchanged gunfire.

The owner was killed and police believe the suspect was wounded. The suspect is said to have been shot once in the upper body and once in the leg. Police believe he may be bleeding profusely and may seek medical attention.

The family of the owner, Emile Salam, did not wish to speak on camera, but did tell FOX 2's Roop Raj that Salam has spoken to the media before when a suspect armed with a fake gun held up the store.

The description of the suspect is limited at this time. He is said to have been wearing black pants and a black hoodie with a white bandana draped over his face with glasses.

Detectives say the prosecutor has asked surveillance video of the shootout not be released.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Clinton Township police at (586) 493-7803.
