Dearborn Heights police officer, another man found dead in garage

Two men were found dead at a home in Dearborn Heights Friday morning, according to Michigan State Police.

The men were found inside the garage at the home in the 8500 block of Lochdale, and one of the men was a police officer in the city.

According to police, the owner of the home found her boyfriend and his friend, a Dearborn Heights Police Sergeant, dead just after 9:00 Friday morning.

Michigan State Police are taking over the investigation and are treating it as a double homicide. They found no signs of struggle around the home, or trauma on the bodies. Carbon monoxide poisoning has been ruled out. Lt. Mike Shaw said today of all days was a brutal one to lose an officer of the law.

"On peace officers Memorial Day, it's kind of disappointing that we would have one of our own found deceased today and our thoughts and we send our condolences to the Dearborn Heights Police department." Shaw said.

We have chosen to withhold the names of the victims as police work to notify all family members. Neighbors and family friends alike say the 44-year-old sergeant and his friend were always together.

"They bring their kids over and their dog and have barbecues," neighbor Pat Kondratowicz said.

Family friends describe the sergeant as a "guys guy," who coached baseball, watched his 10-year-old son play hockey, enjoyed golfing. The sergeant was often seen with his two children and records show the 39-year-old girlfriend of the other man, who neighbors say moved in here recently, lost her husband four years ago.

A family friend on scene tells FOX 2's Erika Erickson the officer was off duty, and was friends with the other man.
