The Detroit News reports leaders from Detroit Dog Rescue have said that they sometimes get dogs that aren't surrendered by owners. Detroit Animal Control head Harry Ward has said Michigan law requires stray dogs be impounded for four business days to give owners time to claim them.
Detroit Police Sgt. Cassandra Lewis said that Detroit Dog Rescue could keep the dogs as of Monday. Ward has set a deadline for paperwork from the group to show how they got the dogs.
The police department oversees Detroit Animal Control. Lewis says a meeting with rescue groups could be set up in the next couple weeks.
