Detroit youth baseball team needs help to make trip to regionals

A youth baseball team's record on the field earned them the right to represent Detroit in a regional showdown.

But they need your help getting there.

The Detroit Playmakers were practicing hard Wednesday. This 12 and under travel team just learned they're representing the Detroit Police Athletic League at a regional tournament in Rockford, Illinois, next week.

If the team wins there, they'll go to the world series in Puerto Rico.

"I think we're going to win," said a young girl on the team. "And we're going to go to the championship and Puerto Rico. I'm very excited about that."

So much excitement but so much to do. Detroit PAL is paying the tournament entrance fee for next week, but the Detroit Playmakers have to pick up the tab on everything else - and they sure could use some help.

"We're very blessed to have some sponsors come forward," said Herbert Sanders, general manager. "Our rooms have been taken care of. But we have a $3,400 obligation to our charter bus and we need the community's help to make that happen."
