Dog found frozen to ground, Ecorse man charged with animal cruelty and torture

An Ecorse man is being charged with multiple counts of animal torture and cruelty after his dog was found frozen to the ground last week.

Elsa, a chow-mix, was found frozen to the ground February 17th. The 10-year-old dog was trapped after her lead was wrapped around her leg and the side of her body was frozen to the ground.

Marylou Rotrock heard Elsa making a lot of noise so she went to check on her inside William Childress' yard.

"I kept hearing (the dog), so I had to walk over there," Rotrock told FOX 2 last week. "And I'm not one that goes over on other people's property. Something told me I had to."

When she was found, she had bleeding paws and frostbitten ears while laying inches from a frozen bowl of water.

The dog was taken to Healthy Paws in Westland for treatment and thousands of dollars poured in to help.

Childress was initially cited but detectives took a further look at the case and decided to pursue felony charges of animal cruelty.

On Tuesday, two charges were filed against Childress: One for torture of an animal and one for abandoning/cruelty to two or three animals.
