A 20-year-old suspect from Bloomfield Hills led cars on a chase from Lapeer City to Orion Township, hitting two police cars. The chaos ended with a nosedive in a ditch and that driver in handcuffs.
"I don't know what was going through this his mind," said Oakland County Undersheriff Michael McCabe. "So he probably was drunk."
Police say the chase started at 11 p.m. Wednesday when Lapeer City police tried pulling over the Bloomfield Hills man, driving on M-24 on suspicion of drinking and driving.
"He fled south on M-24, came into Oakland County through Oxford Township through Orion Township," McCabe said.
Flying down the road with his hazard lights on and music blasting, deputies say the man crossed into Oakland County.
"At Brown Road and M-24 one of our deputies was able to deploy some stop sticks which he went over," McCabe said. "And started to flatten his tires."
But it didn't end there, that was when a deputy was able to get in front of the driver to try and stop him. But the 20-year-old was still trying to get away at this point slowing down to 40 miles per hour, rammed the patrol car twice.
"After he hit the patrol car the second time, he bounced off and went into a ditch, down into some weeds," said McCabe.
The chase over, the man was arrested and taken to jail. He was later turned over to Lapeer to be charged.
But that's not all, McCabe said.
"He's facing some serious felonies in Oakland county," McCabe said. "That's for sure."
The broadcast version of this story says the suspect is from Bloomfield Township, which is incorrect.
