Egg-shaped pods could become new burial alternative

Designers in Italy have developed an egg-shaped burial pod which biodegrades and transforms the body of the deceased into a tree.

Coffins and cremations are so 2015.  Designers in Italy have developed an egg-shaped burial pod which biodegrades and transforms the body of the deceased into a tree. Sound weird? The creators of the Capsula Mundi think not. The type of tree is selected before the person dies just like a coffin is picked. Loved ones can care for the tree for years to come.

It is billed as an 'eco-friendly' form of burial.

The person is placed in the pod in the fetal position.  After they are buried a tree is planted above the pod and nutrients from the decaying body are used by the growing tree.

It might remind you of the 1993 Belly song called "Feed the Tree."
