DETROIT (WJBK) - The next Republican debate is happening right here in downtown Detroit this week. FOX 2's Roop Raj takes us inside The Fox Theatre as preparations are underway for the big event on Thursday, March 3.
The stage has been set with all five podiums for candidates Donald Trump, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, John Kasich and Ben Carson.
"These are people who are running to be the president of the United States and they're going to be up onstage and it is our job to make sure everything goes well for them," says Cherie Grzech, who works as the liason between FOX News and the different campaigns.
Wednesday morning when Roop visited the theater, the crew was working on the lighting.
One crew member told us they have more then 75 moving lights, and more than 650 lights in general for the entire stage.
He said it was about 10 tons worth of gear.
Public tickets are no longer available for the debate, but you can still get an up-close look from Roop Raj. He's doing a very special show exclusively on the FOX 2 Facebook Page that will be live at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. He'll take us inside the Fox Theatre for a behind-the-scenes look at what's happening before the big debate begins.
The debate starts at 9 p.m.
On Sunday, March 6, a Democratic debate with Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders will take place in Flint.
