Family grieves woman found dead in torched van with limbs missing

A woman's body was found in a burned-out car on Detroit's west side with her limbs missing.

The family of 20-year-old  Rhonda Davis spoke to FOX 2's Erika Erickson about their loss.

"I can't stomach not being able to see or hug my daughter, or talk to her anymore," said Davis' mother, Rashon Cooper-Black. "There's no me without her."

Davis' mother said that learning of her daughter's death almost a week ago was hard enough, but the horrific way her daughter was taken, is too much to bear.

"I keep going to sleep dreaming about her," Black said. "Not wanting to wake up - I realize she's not here."

Detroit police say last Friday Davis's badly burned body was discovered inside a torched minivan on Kendall and Westbrook. She had been shot multiple times and sources say her arms and legs were missing.

Her mother, who had been trying to reach her, turned on the news Friday afternoon and saw Davis' vehicle.

"Instantly when I saw the van it alarmed me, because it looked like her van," Black said. "I guess a mother's intuition, I guess from that moment, I felt my heart drop in my stomach."

Davis' first-born daughter, what she calls her backbone, leaves behind brothers and sisters.

"At that point, I just felt like everything detached from my body."

This mother says she couldn't even see her daughters body as the medical examiner used dental records to identify her.

"Because of what they did, I can't give her a proper burial, a last kiss," Black said. "It's just what I have the last time I saw her. I'm left here with nothing."

Investigators ask anyone who may have seen Davis' 2002 silver Plymouth Voyager in the Outer drive and Schoolcraft area to call police at (313) 596-5300.

Detroit police say Thursday no arrests have been made as the investigation continues.

"It feels like my life has literally been taken away from me," Black said. "I feel like I'm not going to be able to move forward."
