Family of son killed by suspected drunk driver needs help

For Candace Griffin the pain of losing her brother unexpectedly is more than she can bear.

"I'm trying my hardest. Haven't been eating and people telling me to go to the doctor ... I can't," she said.  "I took his blanket and the other stuff with me, I need his comfort. I feel he's telling me, 'Candace I'm ok.'"

Eddie Griffin was killed after the vehicle he was a passenger in rolled over as it exited I-94 at Shook Road.  Police said the driver, Christopher Sereck Buckerfield, was intoxicated

"We have alcohol involved, vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed," said Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham. "An innocent life is lost. Drugs were found on (Buckerfield's) person at the hospital."

The accident investigation is ongoing, Wickersham added.

"He was becoming a young man and now I won't see him prosper," Candace said of Griffin, 28, who had served six years in the National Guard.

The Griffin family says they're working to raise money for funeral expenses and is hoping the public can help.

The family set up a GoFundMe account to pay for the nearly $7,000 funeral.

"I would love everyone to contribute to our fund we started," Candace said. "He deserves a great homegoing. He was such a giving soul."

The funeral is scheduled for Valentine's Day. Candace says it's a fitting tribute for her brother.

"Valentine's Day is a day of love so we just decided to have it on a day we will never forget," she said.
