Family searches for answers in hit and run death in Chesterfield last week

CHESTERFIELD, Mich (WJBK) -- A crash near the intersection of Gratiot Avenue and 22 Mile Road in Chesterfield Township took the life of a 30-year-old man as he was walking home from the bar last week.

Now the family of Phil Leija is hoping someone with information on what happened will come forward.

Leija left Bigg's bar in Chesterfield at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 6.

His uncle tells FOX 2's Dave Spencer that Phil Leija was struck and killed near the intersection of Gratiot Avenue and 22 Mile Road shortly after.

Now they are hoping someone saw something and will come forward with information about the vehicle that hit him.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Chesterfield Police.

The family will be holding a fundraiser on Saturday, June 20 at Buggsy's bar in Chesterfield.
