Oakland County Sheriff's Deputies are at the scene of a double-fatal crash in Lyon Township that occurred just after 8 a.m. Tuesday.

A father and son died in the crash and two others have been transported to an area hospital in critical condition, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

The victims have been identified as Pedro Montanez, a 36-year-old New Hudson resident and 9-year-old Steven Timothy Montanez. Two other children, a 10-year-old boy and 6-year-old girl are listed in stable condition at CS Mott's Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor.

The crash happened on Pontiac Trail near Silver Lake Rd. in Lyon Township.  Montanez was driving a 2005 Mazda 3 on west bound Pontiac Trail when his vehicle was struck by a 1994 Ford Super Duty truck heading east bound.

Montanez, driving with his three children, lost control on the snow-covered roadway, and drifted left of center crossing into the east bound lane and into the path of the Ford truck pulling a landscaping trailer.

The Ford truck, driven by a 25-year-old Farmington Hills resident, attempted to avoid the Mazda by going toward the shoulder and broadsided the passenger side of Montanez's vehicle.

The occupants of the Mazda were trapped and Pedro Montanez was pronounced dead at the scene. The children were extricated by Lyon Township Fire and transported to CS Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor.

Steven Montanez died at the hospital, the driver of the Ford truck was uninjured.

Police say alcohol does not appear to have been a factor, all occupants were wearing seat belts and the girl was in a proper booster seat.

The crash remains under investigation.
