Flood watch in effect as rain moves into SE Michigan

After a dry summer, the rain is now coming down prompting a Flood watch for the entire region until 12 p.m. Tuesday.

The flood watch goes into effect at midnight and could make for a slow commute in the morning.  Weather Authority Rich Luterman said within the next six to eight hours, we'll see periods of heavy rain. Some of it will be heavy heading to the early morning of Tuesday, with some us getting 1 to 2 inches of rain with some rumbles of thunder.

By 11 p.m. the heaviest action right now is off to the west at Jackson, Kalamazoo and Lansing, where the heavy rain is now.  The Flood Watch goes into effect at midnight for Lapeer, Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, Sanilac, St. Clair Washtenaw and Wayne counties.

Area creeks, rivers and streams will be on the rise. Give yourself a few extra minutes Tuesday morning on the roads.

A flood watch means there's potential for flooding. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop. Much of our rain will fall between midnight and 6 a.m.
