Friend of Stony Creek crash victim planned to be at park Friday night

Police say alcohol may have been involved in a crash that killed three teenagers and badly injured two others at Stony Creek Metro Park.

Joshua Peters found out about the deadly crash involving his classmates moments after it happened Friday night. Peters attends Henry Ford II High School.

"It happened so fast and it's not like you can take it back," he said. "One wrong decision led to three deaths and two really bad injuries."

Peters went to school with Mike Wells, one of the three students killed in Friday's crash. Peters says he had every intention of going to Stony Creek Metro Park that day.

"I woke up that morning and wasn't feeling well and was supposed to go fishing at Stony with my best friend who is good friends with Mike.  I didn't get to go because I was sick.

"Luckily I didn't get to see it or witness it."

Peters often fished at the dam there, the exact spot where the crash happened Friday night.

"It really makes me think," he said. "It could have been me, it could have been any of us."

In total, five Utica Community Schools students were in a car driving inside Stony Creek Metro Park when it lost control. The Jaguar went over a fence into the water below.

Four of the five were throw from the car, the fifth was buckled in.

Greg Bobchick is listed in fair condition while Joseph Narra is still in critical condition.

Wells, Emanuel Malaj of Sterling Heights and Jonathan Manolios, did not survive.

Beer cans were seen collected by police along with various car parts.

FOX 2 is told it is all being considered evidence at this point while police wait for toxicology results to determine if alcohol was a factor along with speed.

"It makes me appreciate my friends in my life, my family," Peters said. "Everything else that I have."

FOX 2 was told some students are planning to gather at the park this weekend and release lanterns into the night sky at the dam where the accident happened.
