The dog, which has been named Courtney, is a 2-year-old female terrier-beagle mix. Officials said that Courtney chewed off her rear paw to escape after being bound to a fence and left to die nearly a week ago outside of a Roseville Walmart.
Pet rescue volunteers were working at Walmart today from 1 until 7 p.m. meeting with potential families for dogs. Walmart matched all donations made today to help with Courtney's medical care.
"She's doing super good," said Melanie Wittner, director of the Hopeful Heart Rescue in Roseville, which has been instrumental in the dog's medical care.
Police were called after the dog was found chained to a post by a worker. Officers found the dog with a metal cable wrapped around its rear left leg,
The dog was taken to Advanced Animal Emergency in Clinton Township, where the leg was amputated. Four Paws One Heart is funding medical treatment for Courtney according to Diana Rascano, the group's president.
Guardians for Animals, is offering a $1,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the men who abandoned Courtney.
