Highland Park High School closes due to enrollment drop, finances

Highland Park Renaissance Academy High School will be closed, the district announced. 

A letter was sent home to Highland Park High School families was sent home Thursday stating that due to a significant drop in enrollment it is no longer financially feasible to operate the high school. 

Between the years 2010 and 2012, enrollment dropped 50 percent. Enrollment was about 400 students and has decreased to 160. 

The students will be absorbed by DPS, Educational Achievement Authority charter program, or another charter high school in Highland Park. 

Students will receive bus passes to attend their new school next fall. 

About 345 students attend grades K through 8th grade.  About $1 million in state revenue will be lost due to the high school closing.
