Jail inmate who escaped from work-release job is arrested

An inmate who escaped custody in Monroe County Friday morning has been arrested.

Sheriff's officials say 27-year-old George Wingle of Monroe was taken into custody on Monday in Detroit. He was last seen Friday morning driving away in a Ford Escape from the area where he had been working. Investigators say he had discarded his red jail uniform about a mile away.

The Detroit Special Operations Unit and the Michigan Department of Corrections Absconder Recovery Unit found Wingle. He had been jailed for violating probation on an original conviction of stealing a financial transaction device and possessing drugs.

Wingle was set to be released in April. He'll now face escape charges.
