A large pavement hole formed in the southbound lanes of the I-75 Rouge River Bridge Thursday afternoon.

Two lanes were closed and two lanes were open on the freeway shortly before 4 p.m.

Wayne County road crews were at the site which was patched and later saw the lanes reopen at about 6 p.m.

Drivers using southbound I-75 from downtown Detroit faced long backups and were forced to use I-94 west or Michigan Avenue as an alternate routes.
