Beautiful Bretange (pronounced ‘Brittany’) is the center of attention at the age of 16.  She was honored Friday night at a fundraiser in North Houston for "Houston Pet Set," a non-profit that gives grants to animal-welfare groups.

“To have her owner share her with us mean so much," said Tena Lundquist Faust with Houston Pet Set.

14 years ago Bretagne and her owner/handler, Denise Corliss from Cypress, worked at "Ground Zero" after the September 11th attacks.

“It's still very vivid the events of the day have made a permanent mark for me," said Corliss.

It was their first deployment together volunteering for Texas Task Force One.

“I appreciate all the support we're getting but frankly tonight is not about this dog.  It's about those who lost their lives 14 years ago,” said Corliss.

As the last-known surviving search and rescue dog from 9-11, Bretagne has gained international fame.  Last month "Bark Post," a company dedicated to making dogs happy, flew Bretagne and her family to New York City for a "Dream Day" to say "thank you" for her service.

“It was an overwhelming event,” said Corliss.

Bretagne was treated to a luxury hotel, a limousine and plenty of cheeseburgers -- not to mention birthday cake and presents.

“The support we got from New Yorkers was just amazing," said Corliss.

The National September 11th Memorial and Museum even dedicated a cobblestone to Bretagne and Denise on the plaza of the 9-11 Memorial.

“That was really heartfelt for me.  It meant the world to me, it was such an honor," said Corliss.
