(WJBK) - Time to Let It Rip: Should Michigan do more to help former criminals find gainful employment after serving their time? Some states have taken action by “banning the box” that asks about criminal status on job applications. It’s also possible for some offenders to have their records expunged. Should people with criminal records be giving a second chance? Or are employers entitled to know before they consider hiring someone?
On the panel:
Alvin Hill, who served 9 years for armed robbery/home invasion. Since his release nearly three years ago, he’s had difficulty finding traditional employment. He is currently self-employed.
Maureen Taylor, Chair of the Michigan Welfare Rights Organization
Thayrone X, Conservative talk radio host for WAAM
Judge Deborah Thomas, Michigan Third Circuit Court Judge – Criminal Division. She also hold forums to educate people on their options for record expungement and how to gain employment.
