'Like we were robbed' family grieves daughter killed in rollover crash

(WJBK) - Two families are grieving a pair of young women killed in crash Tuesday morning in Southfield.

One of the women dreamed of being a veterinarian, dying along with her best friend in the crash at Berg Road and Civic Center. They were passengers in the car - and their mutual friend was behind the wheel. 

FOX 2 spoke with the parents of one of the victims.

"I just feel like we were robbed," said Kizzy Dickerson. "I really do. We don't know what to do now."

Dickerson and Tywan Bryant are still coming to terms with their daughter Tyana's tragic death. They say she was on the right track --a third-year student at Eastern Michigan University. A good kid who dreamed of becoming veterinarian since she was 2 years old.

"She wanted to be a veterinarian - even when she didn't even know how to pronounce it," Dickerson said.

It is a dream that will never be realized. Tyana and her best friend Marcia Gingles made the mistake of getting in the car with a mutual friend, a 20-year-old man from Southfield who police say may have been drunk.

He crashed his car into a tree on Berg Road just north of Civic Center in Southfield and then tried to run away from the scene. Not once did he check on the young women in his car.

"You are drunk, you are speeding, an accident happens and you leave?" Bryant said. "You just leave? You leave two girls trapped in the car, it doesn't get any worse than that."

The suspect arrested for driving the car is expected to be arraigned Thursday.

Tyana's parents said this should serve as a stark reminder for young people to be careful about the company they keep - and if they ever feel off about something, don't be afraid to back out or to leave.
