DETROIT (WJBK) - A Detroit woman's throat was slashed with her body stuffed into a closet inside a home on the city's east side.
A suspect was arrested by police at the scene, while the victim's family is in disbelief.
Silent hugs then sobs from the family of 21-year-old Tiris Doss of Detroit as police removed her body Friday afternoon.
"It was heartbreaking," said Dennez Withers, Doss' cousin. "Very unexpected, shocking.
"This is something I wouldn't even wish on my worst enemy."
Doss's cousin said there had been a party going on inside the home on E. State Fair and Anvil.
Detroit police say they received a call just after 7 a.m. Neighbors reporting some sort of disturbance. When officers arrived, they found pools of blood.
Police forced their way into the home and spotted a 24-year-old man trying to escape. Officers quickly captured him. Police believe it may have been a domestic situation.
"I don't see any reason to take someone's life especially if it's over a relationship," Withers said.
With blood all over the home, police say they discovered Doss's body moments later stuffed in a bedroom closet. Her throat, slashed.
"I honestly feel like it's a waste of two lives," Withers said. "Because he's going to do time and she'll never be able to come back."
As her family stands in disbelief, Doss' cousin has a message for her and for everyone.
"I would like to tell my cousin that I love her," Withers said. "She will be greatly missed. And our loss I'd like to serve as an inspiration to other people."
"Not just in Michigan, but the world. It is getting out of hand."
