11-year-old accidentally shoots self in southwest Detroit

DETROIT (WJBK) - Detroit police say an 11-year-old boy accidentally shot himself in the buttocks while he was playing with a gun Thursday morning. 

The child was home alone at the time, around 8:30 a.m., and has been taken to the hospital. The child's exact medical condition is not known at this time.

This happened at a second-floor apartment in the 3900 block of Vernor Highway, which is near the intersection of W Grand Boulevard.

Investigators are still on scene working to lean how the boy got ahold of the gun.
