11-year-old grabbed in Highland Park on way to school, saved by stranger

Police are investigating an attempted abduction that happened Tuesday morning in Highland Park as a young girl was walking to school.

Eleven-year-old Raja Ringo was walking to school with her brother when she says a man came out from behind a bush and grabbed her arm.

"He grabbed my arm like this, really tight," she says, demonstrating on her dad. “He grabbed my arm so tight it hurt through my coat.”

She says it happened at Oakman Boulevard near the abandoned old Sanders building, which is near Hamilton Avenue.

Fortunately, an adult saw it happen and jumped into action.

A man was walking out of a gas station with his daughter to take her to school. He was able to scare off the suspect. Ringo  was not physically harmed.

Ringo tells FOX 2 she was thinking she might die when she was grabbed. She says she was so scared when it happened that she really wasn't able to get a good look at the suspect.

She thinks the adult who helped her said something to the suspect to scare him off, but she can’t remember.

This is a developing story. Stay with FOX 2 for updates.
