Cruz calls story about cheating on wife a tabloid smear

- Presidential candidate Ted Cruz is calling the story accusing him of cheating on his wife garbage, saying it’s nothing more than a tabloid smear.

When it comes to the story from the National Enquirer, Cruz is pointing his finger at his rival, Donald Trump.

“It is a smear that has come from Donald Trump and his henchmen,” the Texas senator said at a press conference.

Cruz specifically pointed out veteran GOP operative Roger Stone, a friend of Trump, for emailing the article around the country to prominent Republican reporters. He also noted that Trump’s friendship with the tabloid’s CEO.

Cruz’s local campaign notes no major media outlets picked up to the story prior to the tabloid’s story.

“Of course not, because it’s the National Enquirer and you know someone said, ‘Well, they were right about a couple other things,’ and I thought, even a broken clock is right twice a day,” said Wendy Day, state director of the Ted Cruz campaign in Michigan.

Cruz has come come to revoking his pledge to support Trump should he win the GOP nomination.

“This man would be an embarrassment as president,” Cruz said.

Cruz said Trump is all style and no substance, which makes him desperate.

“Trump is scared, it ain’t complicated,” he said.

Now Trump, who is known for being outspoken, issued a brief statement, saying he had nothing to do with the story, and that Cruz’s problem with The National Enquirer is his and his alone.
