Family of murder victim shot and set on fire, wants justice

A father of three taken too soon - and a heartbroken family that wants answers.

A Detroit family is pushing for justice after a father is gunned down his body then set on fire.

A father of three taken too soon on a snowy January day when police discover the body of Eddie Peebles.

He was shot and burned in the basement of an apartment on Whittier near I-94 in Detroit.

"He was so loveable, you know what I mean,"  said Giaresa King. "He was doing well. He was trying to get his life on track and trying to love his children and be a part of their lives. They took him away.

"I am still waiting for him to pull up in the driveway."

The circumstances around his death still haunt Giaresa King, the mother of his 14-year-old son.

"They did him really bad and I can't get that out of my head," King said. "I want justice."

This past Monday King learned that Peebles had come into some money from a lawsuit - $25,000. He had collecting that money  five days before he was killed.

In the months that followed his death, King has been in contact with police

"Detectives say they have two boys in custody and they are looking for a third," King said.

Those two suspects are being held on unrelated charges. King is hopeful by sharing Peebles' story, someone will come forward and let her family rest knowing a killer is off the street.

"From what police say, he was still alive when he was set on fire," King said. "I know that God says to forgive, but I want them to get the same punishment - the same treatment they gave him."

Anyone with information is asked to call Detroit police at (313) 596-5200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
