12-year-old, 16-year-old hurt in shooting on Detroit's east side

- Police are looking for the suspect responsible for shooting a 12-year-old girl on Detroit's east side.

Gun shots were fired around 8 p.m. Sunday in the 1900 block of East Grand Boulevard.

A 12-year old girl and 16-year-old boy inside an upstairs bedroom heard the shots, and then the 12 year old realized she'd been hit.

"According to witnesses, there were neighbors outside of a location consuming alcohol and there was an altercation of some sort. Shortly after the altercation, a silver Ford Focus or a Fusion pulled up and fired approximately 10 shots -- we believe from a high-powered rifle."

Police say the 12-year-old was treated for a graze wound to the leg and the 16-year-old was hit by flying debris. Both victims are expected to be fine.

Neighbors say they're upset by the criminal activity on their street and want it to end.

"It's mind blowing that it's still happening out here," one neighbor said. "We even got people in the NFL protesting to get the police to stop the police brutality and then we still got stuff like this happening on the streets."

Police say the search continues for the person responsible for the shooting and it's still not clear why the shots were fired into the house.

"Not certain why the suspect chose that house - maybe believe that one of the disputants was in that home," Craig said.

As the investigation continues in the shooting, one resident says he will make changes to help keep his family safe.

"It bothers me a lot because I got two young children here that are growing up on this street, so we're going to stay in the house probably for a little while until they find them," the neighbor said.

Police want anyone who knows something about the shooting to contact them.
