Fiat Chrysler employees take down gunman at North Jefferson plant

- A group of Fiat Chrysler employees took down a gunman Saturday morning at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant, possibly preventing a tragedy.

The plant, located at Jefferson and Connor, was put on lockdown shortly before 9:30 a.m. Saturday when an unidentified man entered the plant with a gun, bypassing security.

No shots were fired, and eight employees took the gunman down and wrestled the .45 caliber handgun out of his hands.

The man was quickly taken into custody and the gun has been recovered.

Police said the event is believed to be a domestic situation. The gunman's significant other works at the plant and they are undergoing a breakup.

The man, who is a former Fiat Chrysler employee, was out on parole after previously facing assault and weapons charges.

Fiat Chrysler officials said there are no injuries to any of its employees.

"This is a great example of people working together. I mean, just heroic," said Detroit Police Chief James Craig.
